Bristol Cathedral for the weekend of 4-6 April is now confirmed. We will be singing 3 services across the Saturday and Sunday and possibly meeting on Friday to get ahead on rehearsals. More to follow.
In the meantime, it’s always good to have a choir’s input on the music choices.
Below is my ‘longlist’ — as some of you will observe, I’m proposing a bit more of a ‘cathedral pops’ music list this time round, with minimal new items. More time for beer, eating etc
Saturday — Tim

Canticles: Jackson in G
Anthem: O Clap your hands (Gibbons)
Hymn: Hymn: 443
Sun am — Huw
Mass: Widor Double Organ Mass
Anthem: Tantum Ergo — Vierne
Hymns: 345; 362; 307; 486
Sun pm — Tim
Introit: Easter Alleluia (Bednall) mp3 | pdf
Canticles: Brewer in D

(discounted but on the shortlist for next time: Dyson in F, Walmisley in Dm, Stanford in Bb/A/C, Save Us O Lord (Bairstow) Blest pair of sirens (Parry) / Fo Lo I Raise Up (Stanford) / Te Deum (Vaughan Williams), Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor, Col Reg Te Deum (Howells) Tantum Ergo — Widor/Durufle)
Anything else to throw in to the mix? Anyone feel strongly pro or anti these suggestions?

Oh man. How didn’t I think of this before? Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor!!
Might be a bit much for the numbers but such a good choice: VW 50th anniversary and the perfect acoustic for it.

Vaughan Williams Te Deum in G complements the VW mass. It gets my vote for a jolly Sunday am anthem.

And it’s so good too! But will the audregation get confused and think they’re at Mattins?

VW Gminor please.
Or either of the other options listed, with the last page of the VW tacked on….

Huw rightly points out to me that Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor isn’t in the least Eastertide and is probably a bit hard for a 2-day weekend. So it’s been dropped until next time we do a 3-4 day jaunt in Lent.
The Widor is great though!
