Accommodation options

the square in St Davids with the cathedral in the backgroundWell there’s good news and there’s bad news.

Alas, Pen Rhiw — which we had provisionally booked — has been sold up and has ceased to trade with immediate effect. Astonishingly it has been bought up privately. To put this in context, Pen Rhiw (”pen roo”) is a Victorian building with seven acres-grounds and around 20 bedrooms; this guy’s got cash.

Anyway, this puts us in a position of having to search for other accommodation which is:

  • inexpensive
  • available for groups
  • and, er, available

Ha! In overpriced, over-subscribed and under-equipped hotel land it won’t be easy.

However, there are a couple of options. Treginnis Isaf, a city farm, may be available provided Coventry Cathedral aren’t usin g it…(am currently investigating!) and then there’s the Courthouse.

The Courthouse is the most central option so far, literally on the main square with the cathedral in sight. It has 24 rooms and you can book the whole place out for £550 in high season. We don’t need it for a whole week, but at that price who cares?! (I mean, you do that math(s) - £550 between 24 people = fantastic value. And it would be available to anyone who wanted to extend the holiday for a whole three days before any of the church nonsense kicked off.

Just a shame it’s already booked for 2007.

Perhaps next time. Anyway, if nothing else turns up we’ll might have to rearrange for 2008 — and the Courthouse is a no-brainer.
